My Students
Our K-5 music classroom has a unique identity. We explore music through traditional folk songs and modern technology. We use song, instrumental playing, and movement as our lens.
Our elementary students are eager to learn and crave new and intriguing musical experiences.
Our school strives to innovate and create great experiences. The students are involved in band and choir with many choosing to seek outside endeavors in the arts in our community.
My Project
My students will use the new instruments including two tambourines, a slap stick (whip sound), a flex-a-tone (metallic glissando), and a cabasa (chunky scraping sound) to accompany folk songs, compose sound stories, and engage in a rich musical environment. The Instrumentorium is at the core of introducing students to a robust pallet of sound.
Our students will often engage with these instruments in Orff Ensemble arrangements meant to introduce students to musical realization through discovery and improvisatory based learning.
The choices for musical expression will multiply in our classroom and introduce unique instruments to our students and community through performance.
Many of these instruments only exist in the general music environment. My hope is that they grow attached to seeking unique sounds and experiences when listening and interacting with music.
