Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Miss, I can't type my essay because I don't have access to a computer." "Ms. G, how can I do research for my project since I don't have a computer?" In today's technology age, it is unthinkable that students would not have access to computers. But for many of my students, this is the reality.

The majority of my students qualify for the free-reduced lunch program and getting them to provide even the most basic of school supplies for themselves is challenging.

The few students who do have access to technology, struggle to conduct in-depth Google searches or type a paper in MLA format. It is sad that for some students, double spacing an essay means hitting the space bar twice after each word.

My Project

For this project, I am requesting a computer (with a trackpad) to be used in my classroom. Students will be able to use the computer to conduct research, type essays, and reports, and even check their grades on our school's online grade book. Having access to a computer will help them keep track of their grades and make sure research and assignments on Google Classroom are complete. It will also help them learn valuable skills, such as word processing and how to evaluate reliable sources. A computer in my classroom will also help me grow as a teacher, as I will be able to teach my students valuable skills, such as checking the validity of sources, how to create a PowerPoint presentation, and how to type an essay in MLA format. The computer will enable me to share videos and presentations with my classes that relate to the material we are studying, making the subject matter accessible to all.

No high school graduate in the 21st century should lack basic computer skills.

With these skills, students will not only be prepared for college and the workforce, but for the world beyond. Your support can help make this happen.
