This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I love reading and would love to pass that passion to my students. At minimum, I want to make sure they have the strategies to be a great reader.

This year I am teaching 46 students.

In first grade we see a wide range of reading and writing levels. I have students that are already reading at a second grade level along with students that know their letters and sounds and are just beginning to blend the sounds together and begin the process to becoming a great reader.

My Project

This will be my second year teaching reading through the Daily 5 components. With this the students will spend most of their time READING to themselves, READING with others, and listening to fluent and expressive READING! I am having a hard time with finding ways for students to listen to a story being read with good fluency. The earphones will be utilized to listen to reading on books on CDS and will help with fluency. Students will now be able to follow along with the eBooks and keep up with technology. The iPad will also help by giving the students another way of learning while having fun through phonics and other literacy apps. I requested ink to print directions color coded for the daily five posters. My students will be able to view the directions color coded instead of just plain black. They will be able to read it in a fun colorful way.

The computers in our schools are becoming outdated and slow, constantly freezing.

I currently only have a few computers where students can listen to a story. This donation will help me start a new literacy center where my students can read and listen to books at their individual levels. They can also practice the skills that we will review throughout the year. My goal is for each student to leave our classroom with the strategies to be the best reader they can be!
