it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Young artists face many challenges when creating artwork. Not only are they learning how to draw but they also encounter different mediums they must learn to use. Some students, especially 3rd-5th graders, become so frustrated by their drawing imperfections that they are unable to enjoy the artmaking process. A light box would allow them to learn drawing techniques while also building their confidence in different art materials and skills.
Tracing allows artists to learn about shape, proportion, and spatial relationships while building their self esteem.
By following contours in photographs or real life reflections, they are able to learn how shapes, shadows and lines interact to form an image. During the Italian Renaissance, artists frequently used tracing paper and other methods, such as concave mirrors, to transfer images on canvases. This allowed them to learn from masters and real life without as much trial and error.
My students are part of a Title 1 school and they face many obstacles in life that others may not. Art provides them with a safe place to express emotions and releases stress. Social emotional support for my students is key to their success throughout their lifetimes. Light boxes could help them not only learn more drawing techniques but also give them a chance to thrive.
