it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My classroom is a place where music-makers of all varieties call home- band, orchestra, two periods of music production, and two periods of guitar call E7, home for at least one period a day, if not during lunch and after school.
My music room has always had storage issues that I have spent my 9-year career on this campus trying to optimize.
Storage issues for the music program have dated back long before I arrived on this campus, as there is no separate climate-controlled storage, and I optimized storage in my room by storing some currently unused percussion equipment in a storage bin and expanding storage vertically using shelving (including some shelves crowdfunded through DonorsChoose!)
Storage became exacerbated during our return post-pandemic, as I was handed two periods of guitar classes and a full inventory of 60 guitars. The school ordered folding racks, but they have taken up a significant amount of floor space in the classroom.
A double-stack mobile storage rack would take 18 guitars (which would fit onto 4 of our current racks) and fit them into the space the width of just under two of our current racks. By acquiring a double-stack mobile storage rack for guitars, not only would my guitar students benefit, but my entire department would benefit from having more space to expand for rehearsals. We are anticipating the possibility of doubling our band and orchestra enrollment going into next year, and we will need as much floor space as possible.
