This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We are working on creating a "cozy corner" - a safe and inviting space where children can retreat for moments of relaxation, emotional regulation, and focused learning. We request soft seating (rug) or calming sensory tools (sensory bottles, fidget toys, and engaging sing-along books). These items will help transform our cozy corner into a restful retreat, benefiting students in several ways: improved focus and self-regulation, encouraging a love for reading, and creating a safe and inclusive environment.
My primary goal for this project is to support students' emotional well-being while enhancing their academic success.
We aim to provide a safe space by giving students a designated area to feel comfortable taking a break when needed. Promoting self-regulation to teach the student to recognize their emotions and use the cozy corner to calm down and refocus. Lastly, to encourage independent learning by creating an inviting environment where students are excited to read and engage in quiet, focused activities.
My students are bright, curious, and resilient learners who bring unique perspectives to my classroom. As they are still learning and developing their social-emotional well-being, making a safe, cozy retreat is even more essential. With the right resources, we can empower them to thrive academically and emotionally.
