This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are always creating and are always asking me about different kinds of materials to use in the classroom.

My students are aged K-8th grade, so I see a huge range of ages and abilities.

They reside on the south side of Chicago and many receive free breakfast and lunch at school every day. Our school is quite small, with about 40 students per grade level. The community is very tight knit and the school sees many parent volunteers each day.

My Project

As my classroom stands right now, the resources are scarce-- especially when you factor in the large amount of students I see each week. Things move very quickly in the art classroom so more materials are always needed. Some of the resources are basics, like paper, pencils, and erasers. These are needed because of how quickly they are used up. Another resource that will be greatly beneficial is clay and tools that are used to carve. The students haven't had the opportunity to try different materials like this, and discover new ways to express themselves through art.

Donations will help to improve the classroom because any small piece of help is greatly appreciated.

We have very few supplies at the moment so anything more than we have now is a big improvement. Having new supplies and different mediums for the students to use will be great because they will be able to experiment with ideas and projects they were previously unexposed to.
