We need a portable air conditioner to stay cool while engaging in STEM projects.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Vega's classroom raised $546

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
About My Students
Although many of my students were eager to lead this project, Monique, Daniel, Jonathan, and Mark have been selected to lead and represent the student body.
Our Goal: To increase the amount of science equipment so that we can better achieve STEM standards and be college and career ready!
After our first project was funded, my students were overwhelmed with excitement. They were shocked to know that individual donors took an interest in their education and provided them with such amazing science equipment! I encouraged students to take an active role in generating their own grant proposal on DonorsChoose.org so that we could possibly receive a portable air conditioner to stay cool and productive in heated months in which school is still in session.
My students practice STEM on the third floor with 30 other students in the classroom. New York summer weather often runs well into October and starts up again as early as April. Completing STEM projects and labs become much more challenging in the heat. Just as beads of sweat drop from my students’ foreheads, class participation drops too. If this project gets funded, my students will be their usual selves: engaged, enthusiastic, and productive. An air conditioner is something that many people take for granted, and these students desperately need one. By helping fund this project, you will help make all the difference!
In Their Own Words
We want to increase the amount of science and technology equipment used in our class so that we can better learn and practice science in a more advanced way. With an air conditioner in the classroom, we will be much more attentive and class time will be utilized way more effectively.
Science with Mr. V is never dull and so on a usual basis we look forward to the class. Now that heat has taken over the classroom, we have been struck with a bad case of lazy. This simple piece of technology will make the classroom a place where we continuously practice STEM in an enthusiastic way and a place where we can learn without worrying about the heat.
One of the things we learned by doing this project is how to configure the BTU we would need for our size classroom. This is an important piece of information. By calculating this information, we can ensure that our room will stay cool without wasting energy. After completing the online application, we will research how to install the portable air conditioner. We will also look up the best location to install the air conditioner to optimize coolness.
By taking part in this project, it will solve the hardships and challenges we face with a lack of technology. The money donated will help us buy a very valuable piece of science equipment. The hot science classroom is often times unbearable! Most of our classmates feel tired and unmotivated to practice STEM the way that we used to. The project is important to us because we want to end the year off right! Please donate to our cause! It will make all the difference!
