My Students
Help college-bound high school seniors succeed in their Advanced Placement Statistics course! The course has become so popular, they added a second class, but there's no books.
I have been teaching AP Statistics in New York for two years now.
Nearly 80% of the students enrolled at the school come from a current/former ELL (English Language Learning) background. In addition, 100% of the school receives free lunch, and many are homeless due to the recent economic situation. Despite their hardship, I have been blessed with 60 extremely motivated college-bound seniors. Word of the success my students had last year spread, and I find myself teaching a course to twice the number of students I was originally given resources for. The school lacks funding, and cannot supply textbooks for all students in the class.
My Project
My students need 30 copies of The Practice of Statistics by Dan Yates, David S. Moore, and Daren Starnes. It is imperative in a college-level statistics course to align the text with the curriculum. Many of my students still face language barriers, and seeing something in print would facilitate their learning tenfold.
Your help will ensure that my students have a fair chance to earn college credit for this course (which could potentially save them $1000's in the long run).
All of my students are planning on going to college, and many will be the first generation in their families to do so. An appropriate textbook would prepare my students for the rigors of a college course. Further, your support and knowing that someone is willing to act selflessly on their behalf can be the motivation my students need.
