My Project

Our school district covers a wide range of areas including farmland and tourist attracting lake areas. Because of this we have students from varying backgrounds and resources. Our zone in the county is often forgotten as we have a smaller, more spread out community. Because of lack of funding, we have to make do with what we have always had. The walls have not been repainted in well over a decade (probably longer). The furniture in any given room does not match but rather is a collection from whatever we could find that is not broken. The students have big hearts and kind souls.

The community has so much pride, it would be great if the school looked as good as the hearts of the students and teachers who come to it everyday.

Our school has moved to a 1-1 model and has focused on students completing all or most assignments on a device. However, the learning environment has not changed to accommodate this model. The students have to sit in traditional desks with attached chairs. Not only do these not offer enough desk space for a device and classroom resources, they are also physically too small for some of the larger students.

Having tables instead of the mostly broken or cracked traditional desks will not only offer more usable workspace, but also be more accommodating for all types of students. Having a set of tables in the classroom will also help create a more collaborative learning environment as they will be able to physically work together at one table rather than having to push traditional desks together.
