I currently teach the second grade at a low income Title 1 school. Our school has a large population of English language learners.Most of my student's speak another language at home. It is critical that they build their vocabulary in English during school hours. Currently, we do not have dictionaries that are at their reading levels. Dictionaries are a vital part of vocabulary building. But, if a child cannot read and understand the definitions, a dictionary is useless.The Scholastic First Dictionary is a wonderful tool that would greatly help my students with their language development. This dictionary is written in an easy to understand way. It gives definitions in simple language and includes sentences and examples of the words in use.Your generosity can help make a difference in the lives of my students. Please give the gift of words to my second grade class. They are the future of this nation.
