Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are bright and eager third graders whose first grade year was disrupted by COVID-19. After over a year of virtual learning, they are back in the classroom. I am a new math, science, and social studies teacher at Maury who recently moved from TX to DC, and my classroom needs some love. I'd love to set up a small classroom library for students to peruse if they finish their work early or spot a book they'd like to check out and read at home.

My Project

Storytelling is a developmentally appropriate — and highly engaging — method of teaching third grade math, science, and social studies.

Stories can help students make deep cognitive, social, and emotional connections to their learning while developing higher-order thinking skills.

The aim of this project is to build a classroom library full of rich, inspiring, and interesting STEM and social studies texts that I can use to complement our everyday curriculum.

It's also important that students have access to diverse stories and characters. The books I've chosen reflect my desire to provide my students with a range of narratives and perspectives.
