My Students

Can you imagine a world without books or with just a few? Where would we be without being exposed to different genres of books? That is what my students are facing every day. Our classroom library does not have a wide variety of books and there are not many books available to choose from.

My students are general and special education students who attend a Title I New York Public school in Brooklyn.

The students in my classroom have such a love for reading and use every opportunity they have to visit the class library to read. Unfortunately, I do not have a lot of books in the library due to budget cuts. My students are beginners in reading so the King Series book collection is a perfect match for them. These are easy-to-read books that will help them gain confidence. I want to make sure that my students have a wide selection of books that will expose them to different topics they learn in school, and the book collections that I am requesting will make that possible.

My Project

My students need various collections of books to help build the classroom library and foster independent reading in my students. I am requesting a King Series collection of books that are for early beginning readers. I am also requesting nonfiction, fiction, children's favorites, and a variety of guided reading books to help build my classroom library.

Without having a wide selection of books to choose from, how can I keep my students motivated to read?

Reading is such an important part of life. Studies have shown that when students are exposed to books and read daily, their vocabularies are built and their academic success rate increases. Please help make a difference in my students' lives.
