My Students

There are few things better than seeing a student transform into an avid reader. Thanks to the DonorsChoose community, which donated 200 books and four Kindles to my classroom library last year, I was one very happy and appreciative teacher.

Still, too many boys of color did not catch on to the reading frenzy.

They're also the first to drop out at our school. Despite that bad news, I noticed something fascinating last year: When they used a Kindle, their interest in reading skyrocketed. The problem was that there just weren't enough good books on the Kindles (yet!).

My Project

That's why I hope you'll consider donating to build my classroom e-book library. There are many neat things about donating a Kindle book: 1. They last forever and never need replacing. 2. They can be shared on up to six Kindles. A $10 donation gets six copies of the same book, not just one! 3. Students can make the text bigger and can have the Kindle read the book to them as they follow along.

Even though I don't think there's anything better than a physical book, my ninth grade boys obviously do.

A Kindle book is infinitely more appealing. Your donation will go to purchasing high-interest books so that more boys in my class can transform into voracious readers. Thank you very much!
