Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a first-grade Spanish Dual Language teacher at a small Title I public school that serves a resilient, high-need community. Many of my students face daily challenges related to poverty, limited access to educational resources, and language barriers. Yet, every day, they walk into our classroom with wide eyes, eager minds, and hearts full of possibility.

One of the greatest needs I’ve reflected on this year is access to Spanish books—books that are not only culturally relevant but also written at appropriate reading levels.

Too often, my students were left rereading the same titles over and over, unable to build meaningful connections or make progress in their literacy journey. I want more for them.

I am asking for your support in bringing a rich collection of leveled Spanish books into our classroom. These books will help foster a love of reading and open windows to worlds far beyond our own. Additionally, I am requesting visual aids and phonetic tools that are essential for my multilingual learners, many of whom need visual reinforcement to fully grasp Spanish vocabulary and sentence structure.

This year, I also experienced being without materials which is why I’m also requesting basic classroom supplies.

Looking ahead, I also plan to implement STEAM centers to reduce screen time and increase hands-on exploration through LEGOs and magnetic tiles. These resources will promote problem-solving, collaboration, and creativity—skills my students need to thrive in the 21st century.
