My Project
Help Build a Big Island Classroom Library.
Our charter school in Hawaii is in urgent need of physical books for our 9th and 10th graders.
While we have access to a digital library, reading on a laptop isn't ideal and distractions are just one tab and one click away, making it difficult for students to fully focus on the text.
90% of my students have never read a book for fun. In the age of TikTok and Instagram, their attention spans have been shaped by bite-sized content. This makes sustained reading a challenge they have never been given the chance to overcome. Also, living in Hawaii, with its abundant outdoor activities like surfing and snorkeling just steps from our school, makes the allure of reading even less enticing. Their reading experience has been largely confined to laptop screens, which don’t offer the same engagement or enjoyment as holding a physical book, so please help me ignite the spark that will lead to a lifetime of loving literature. Your support can help us build a classroom library that will encourage our students to discover the joy of reading, beyond the screens and into the world of imagination and learning.
