This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My hard-working, inquisitive students deserve the same opportunities as students in the richest of schools. Your donation can help even the playing field.
I teach 5th grade in a self-contained classroom. I teach in a high-need community. Many of my students do not have access to computers. More than half my class are English language learners.
My school does not have a lot of technology resources. We have two TV/DVD players and two LCD projectors to share amongst approximately 30 classrooms. I understand the importance of integrating technology into the classroom. However it is very difficult to do so when resources are limited. Often I will plan a lesson using a projector only to find that on the morning I need it, someone else is using it, it is being repaired or it is simply missing.
My classroom would be deeply impacted by having its own LCD projector and multimedia cart. I can think of several ways how an LCD projector would help improve student learning. For example, we could use the projector to investigate questions that come up during lessons or discussions. I could model how to conduct Internet research while answering these questions. I could make my lessons more engaging and interactive by creating power point presentations. We could use the projector to have class discussions about primary documents that would help enrich the Social Studies curriculum. Students could review for upcoming tests by playing a power point version of Jeopardy. Students would also be able to analyze movie clips and television clips in order to connect these experiences to other subjects. Students could share their own power point presentations. Student engagement would vastly improve with an LCD projector in the classroom.
For many students across the country, access to technology is a given. Your help will ensure that my students will have the same opportunities to learn as those in affluent areas.
