This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The urban school district in which I serve faces numerous challenges, including high rates of stress, trauma, and behavioral issues among students. Many students experience environmental stressors such as poverty, violence, and family instability that impact their mental, emotional, and physical well-being. These challenges often manifest in the classroom as difficulties with focus, emotional regulation, and overall academic performance.
Integrating trauma-informed, culturally responsive yoga and mindfulness practices into the school environment has been shown to reduce anxiety, improve concentration, and promote resilience.
By receiving funding for a certified yoga teacher training program, I will be equipped with the skills, knowledge, and credentials to implement evidence-based yoga practices tailored to the needs of our students. This training will enable me to offer regular sessions that improve student wellness, enhance classroom behavior, and support staff in stress management and burnout prevention. Additionally, this certification can lay the foundation for a sustainable, school-wide wellness program that empowers students to develop lifelong skills for self-care and mental health.
Investing in this training is a strategic, cost-effective step toward addressing mental health disparities and fostering a healthier, more engaged learning environment for all students.
