Help me give my students access to one of the most inspirational and important books I've ever read or taught--Paulo Coello's The Alchemist!

My Students
My students come from low to very low-income neighborhoods around San Francisco. After 19 years in education, I am trying to shake up my curriculum for next year and years to follow, in an effort create a more engaging and culturally relevant learning environment.
My students are almost entirely youth of color, and every year I seek for ways to enhance their exposure to relevant and inspirational literature that will tap into the amazing potential of their young minds.
However, each year we lose texts and need to replenish our supply so that each student has access to our powerful novels.
My Project
Over 6 years I have put a lot of though into the selection of texts for my 9th graders. The first semester centers on levels of oppression in communities of color, and will conclude for the first time with the incredibly powerful and relevant work by Angie Thomas, The Hate U Give, graciously donated by this organization.
Second semester will focus on self-discovery, empowerment, and adventure, and will begin with Paolo Coello's The Alchemist, one of the most important and inspirational books I've ever read or taught.
This text has been in our curriculum for several years, but I ask the community of Donors Choose to help me ensure each student has access to their own copy.
