Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I currently teach first grade at a Title I school on the Southside of Chicago. I have 28 students enrolled in my classroom. The students mostly come from low-income homes and according to the Illinois State Board of Education 98% of the students at my school were considered low-income in 2008-2009
The majority of my students are ELL (English Language Learners) students, which means that they are beginners in the English language.
We are asking for the HP touchsmart PC computer tablet. This computer would be great because it would help them learn English by providing many visuals. Visuals are some of the best tools for teaching students that are learning a new language. We also need this computer so that we can connect it with a projector and this will allow my students to see images projected from my computer. In addition, this computer converts into a tablet that allows us to write on the screen and have it projected to the whole classroom. Wow, we can use this during all subjects like Math, Reading, Writing, Science and Social Studies!
My Project
The HP touchsmart tablet computer would be a great addition for our classroom because it would provide my students with technology. Since I teach at an overcrowded inner city school,the first extracurricular programs to be eliminated were the computer classes, so now my students are not being exposed to technology in any aspect! They do not have computers at school or home and the “neighborhood” library which has computers is too far away! Just because my students are poor does not mean that they should not have the access or the opportunities to learn and interact with technology like the wealthier schools provide for their students.
