My Students

Do you remember the last time you read a Shakespeare play? My middle school students have not yet discovered the magnificent language of a Shakespearean play. Through Romeo and Juliet,I want to expose my students to feel the passion and power of language that Shakespeare transmits through this play.

My students are 8th graders that live in a high poverty neighborhood.

They are eager to learn new literature but due to the lack of resources, at home and in the neighborhood, my students do not have access to this type of literature outside of the school.

My Project

Romeo and Juliet will be a great story for my students to compare and understand the difficulties of being a teenager. They will compare situations presented in Romeo and Juliet to situations that teenagers face today. Also, by comparing Romeo and Juliet to other short stories, my students will learn how teenagers throughout time have faced difficult decisions and how they have overcome them.

This project will be an asset to the education of my students.

Romeo and Juliet will not only expose my students to the exquisite Shakespearean language but it will serve as a comparison of how being a teenager was difficult back then as well as today and nothing should stop them from achieving their goals.
