My Students
"An arts education helps build academic skills and increase academic performance, while also providing alternative opportunities to reward children who learn differently." ~Gavin Newsome
We are located in the a city in PA.
We are a Title I school and service many economically disadvantaged students. Most of my students' families do not have enough money for supplies. My school district is cutting our budgets to the bare minimum. There are over 1,000 students ranging from grades PreK -6th. Our school has students with a diverse range of academic abilities. Some students have diagnosed learning disabilities and require Special Education services, while others are placed in Gifted classes. Many of theses ability levels are represented in the same classroom. Our teachers need to tailor instruction to meet the needs of individual learners while still progressing the class forward as a whole. Our children are motivated and are always eager to learn!
My Project
The glue, construction paper, white paper, crayons, paint, and makers will ensure that students will have the resources available to be creative as they complete work. All of the materials requested are supplies that are used almost daily, but are costly when purchased in the quantity needed to last throughout the year. In my class, students complete plenty of hands-on, performance-based activities.
It has been proved that students learn better when they are actively involved in their own learning experiences. They thrive when they are able to show what they know through creativity and collaboration. These materials make it possible for students to always be ready to learn. In the previous years I've noticed that the students always seem to have an extra motivation when using materials that have been donated by others that care!
These donations will give my students the materials they need to do fun, creative, educational projects in our classroom.
They will know that even though the school district they are in does not seem to care about their needs other like you do!!
