Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
So often students see science as only in a textbook and worksheet, or as pseudo-science activities such as volcanoes and explosions. True science needs exploration and stimulation on many different levels and in many different ways, including auditory, tactile and visual stimulation.
In my biology class at a brand new charter, we have established a very impressive school culture of success and commitment, but we lack the funds to take it to the next level. We have limited "wow" type activities and supplies, such as instructional videos, computer programs, living (or formerly living) specimens, and chemistry supplies.
What I've asked for is a collection of supplies recommended to me for use during the Exploratorium Summer Teacher Institute 2004. By helping with this project, ALL of the students at this new charter will benefit directly, and for many years to come, as biology is a class ALL freshmen will take when they enter our school.
