This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you have a favorite book? One that, over time, has become dog-eared, creased, with a spine that clearly shows the book has been opened over and over again? The wear shows love. This is the case for many of the beloved books in our classroom library.
I teach in an urban school in an impoverished neighborhood.
All of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch, and many have tough economic situations at home that make cultivating a home library difficult. As a result, coming to school and using the books we have in our classroom library is the main time when many of my students interact with books. And it is in this library that many students find favorite books. They follow the friendship between Elephant and Piggie, the adventures of Knuffle Bunny, and more.
My Project
Each year, my students constantly check out many favorite titles, which, over time, leads to these books breaking at the spines or pages falling out. Hardcover books, though sturdier, are more cost-prohibitive to purchase personally. With this donation, you will provide my students with many of their favorite books to replace the well-worn copies in our library. You'll also provide my students with a number of titles, such as The Book With No Pictures, which are sure to become class favorites.
Getting lost in a book can enable students to go new places, learn new things, and find ways to cope with difficult situations in their lives.
The most beloved books in our library do just this, yet are in desperate need of being replaced. With your generous donation, you can help cultivate a love of reading. Thank you for your generosity!
