My students need a colorful carpet to brighten up the classroom and provide a place for them to sit during reading and whole group instruction. They also need cozy chairs to sit on during independent reading.

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This is my first year teaching second grade at my new school located in Santa Ana, CA. My current situation is an empty white classroom with no furniture. The school was new last year and they added a second grade class because of the growing population of the school. I envision a cozy, colorful, and inviting classroom that makes students feel comfortable and happy to be at school. I would like to get a colorful area rug where students would meet during whole group instruction, reading, mini lessons, writing instruction, etc.
I also would like to have a reading nook so my students have a cozy place to read during independent reading and partner reading time.
My students are made up from a diverse set of backgrounds and include English language learners, special education students, and those receiving free or reduced lunches.
My Project
I want to provide a beautiful classroom environment for the students. By creating a comfortable atmosphere in turn students will feel welcome and want to come to the classroom. Students will sit on the carpet during whole group instruction, reading, mini lessons, classroom meetings and writing instruction. Students spend 6 hours a day, 5 days a week in the classroom and I feel it is important that the classroom is appealing and welcoming. The classroom carpet is an important place where teaching, learning and collaboration take place. In my classroom, the carpet is an especially important place because it is where we will have our daily meetings where students will build strong character. During the meetings my students will discuss topics such as collaborating, persevering, showing empathy and compassion for others. The IKea chairs will be in the reading nook for students. Students will use the comfortable IKEA chairs during independent reading and partner reading. This is where students will use the strategies learned on their own. They will have a comfortable place to go to read. Please help create a fun and exciting environment for my second grade class. Thank you in advance for all of the help and support.
