My students need basic supplies such as pencils, crayons, markers, chart paper to be successful in their academic endeavors . My students need math and literacy manipulatives to help them engage in their learning.
I teach in a low-income/high poverty school. Almost every child lives at or below the federal poverty line. Nearly 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Despite these challenges, my students are eager to learn and crave structure and consistency.
My students crave hands-on learning projects.
They are students who need movement to learn best and succeed when they are able to take part in their learning experience. It is too often that the consequences of poverty get in the way of what children can do academically. I believe that what good educators, like myself, do during the duration of the school day can and will provide them with the necessary skills to succeed.
My Project
Basic supplies, such as pencils, crayons, markers, glue sticks, dry-erase markers, notebooks will allow my students to be successful in every subject.
My students come to school often without any supplies and these basic supplies will alleviate the stress from not having which is something truly special.
Easel/chart pads will allow us to create meaningful anchor charts as we work together throughout the year. Easel/chart pads will help to track students' learning and we will be able to reference the anchor charts throughout the year.
Literacy and math manipulatives (magnetic letters, counters, pattern blocks) will allow my students to be active learners. These manipulative are key in providing effective, active, engaging lessons in the teaching of mathematics and literacy.
