This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can anyone imagine a classroom without computers? With technology becoming an integral part of the classroom in today's world, my students need the proper tools in order to prepare them for what awaits them outside my classroom, but unfortunately do not have the materials readily available to them.

My students are all students re-entering high school for a second chance at earning their high school diploma.

Most are English-Language Learners. All are "at-risk." For all of them, academic and social challenges prevented them from being successful at their past schools. These students have chosen to not only return to school but do whatever it takes to be able to hold a diploma in their hand one day regardless of the challenges they face. When we struggle with having enough for everyone, particularly with computers, my students share with one another without being prompted to. Watching them help one another by doing something as simple as giving students with issues such as childcare priority in using the resources we have makes me proud to be their teacher. These are students who nobody thought could be taught or could graduate and already they are proving disbelievers wrong. It has been truly inspirational to see them make such positive changes in their lives everyday.

My Project

With technology moving more and more into the classroom, my students need to have a computer to complete assignments, apply for financial aid and college, and search for jobs to support their future plans. Having a working computer in the classroom will help my students prepare themselves for their futures to be both college and career ready. On the academic level, my students would be able to complete their course assignments required for graduation. They would also be able to participate in on-line courses provided by our district and local community college system. My students would also be able to apply for college as well the jobs needed to support their higher education goals. Lastly, having a computer would allow my students to learn the skills necessary for today's world. Having a computer in the classroom would give my students a valuable opportunity at preparing for their future by teaching them both academic and communication skills necessary to interact with today's world.

This project is so important because a working computer in the classroom would allow my students to have access to the same resources as other students in the larger, better endowed programs.

This project would continue to serve students for years to come as a valuable asset to their classroom. Donations to this request would allow my students to have access to curriculum beyond the classroom walls and be able to explore what possibilities are available to them if they make the effort.
