This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school comes equipped with large gray, metal shelves. In the past, each teacher could have three per classroom. Due to the high enrollment this year and added portables, each classroom is down to one or two, which are being used for teaching resources. Our books desperately need a home!
My kindergarten class is a wonderful group of responsible children who love reading and organization.
They attend kindergarten all day, and I've already noticed that one of their favorite activities to do during choice time, is visit the classroom library and explore the wide variety of children's literature I've collected throughout the years.
My Project
Because my kindergarten students already love books and reading, my desire for them is to create a classroom library with shelves that are sturdy, and the appropriate height for kinder kids. Out of my own pocket, I recently purchased four cheap, bookshelves from Walmart to give our books a home. Sadly, the shelves have already started to fall apart. I'm starting to become more and more concerned about the safety for my students when they take books on and off the shelves.
Your support for this project would be wonderful in so many ways!
With these new bookshelves, my kindergarten students would be able to easily take books on and off the shelves, and I will no longer have to worry about the shelves falling apart. All the books I have in boxes and crates will have a home and be available for my students to enjoy for years to come. Thank you for your consideration and generosity!
