Our school is a diamond in the rough. I teach 6th grade in a high-need Pennsylvania city. We are thankful for any help we can get, it will go a long way!
In one class of 30 students, I have kids on a 2nd grade reading level as well as an 11th grade reading level. I want to be able to supply all of them with books about topics they are interested in. I want my students to feel successful reading them as well.
Guided Reading is an intervention used to move students to a higher level in reading. We use quick-read books on each individual reader's level that is of high-interest to them. It allows them to feel successful as a reader, which to many is a brand new feeling!
