This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a coach of a program for students with Autism, your support will impact over 30 students in a specialized program to support their social and sensory needs. Students in our program are integrated in all classrooms and school-wide activities, but sometimes we struggle to regulate during them, as the auditorium and cafeteria tend to be very noisy places.

I am requesting supports for my autistic students to use during these integrated times to help them with sensory regulation.

These supports include noise-cancelling headphones to help with loud and busy environments such as the auditorium or cafeteria. It will also help in the classroom when there are busy learning centers to keep students focused on the tasks they need to complete. The weighted lap dinosaurs will benefit students with focus and attention during lessons and independent work by providing sensory input.

Along with headphones, I am requesting fidget support tools to regulate. These tools will help during whole-class instruction throughout the school day as well as provide calming support in the break area. Some of these tools include writing tablets and several sensory fidgets, including mazes, visual water spinners, calming touch boards, and weighted lap dinosaurs. These items will travel with students to other classrooms and be in classroom break areas.
