This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first grade class is located in an inner city in which 80% of the students receive free lunch. The majority of my students do not have learning materials at home. However, they are eager learners and are excited about learning new concepts.
My science curriculum includes a unit of study on weather. Due to budget cuts, there is not much available to fund science projects. The children have a large range of academic ability. The Weather Science Center and the Weather Activity Tub has activities that students can work on independently. It will also enable me to challenge my higher level students. At the same time, my other students can feel successful!
Using the Weather Science Center students explore and experiment with a variety of weather elements—from tornadoes to rain clouds—with a ready-to-use kit filled to the brim with fascinating activities that explore weather across the curriculum. Everything the students need to investigate concepts in-depth, including 40 easy-to-use cards featuring fun, cross-curricular activities based on national science standards…plus tons of hands-on props like a rain gouge, student thermometers, and a cloud finder. From clouds and rain to temperature and condensation, students explore all kinds of weather with 13 fun science activities and lots of skill-building manipulatives.
Your generosity will enable me to engage my students in the weather unit of study. It includes resources that can be used by all learners. The children will be able to use these materials to immerse themselves in the weather unit of study.
