Help a Public Preschool Classroom Transform into a STEM Lab

My students need materials to exercise their creative and inquisitive young minds. Young children are natural scientists and these blocks, waterway sets, light table manipulatives and water table will give them opportunities to investigate.

My Students

Our 40 young children are scientist, mathematicians and engineers. We come from different backgrounds, but the majority of us are recent immigrants and bilingual students.

We are a public preschool classroom in an urban city with lots to see but limited space.

We are a title 1 school that is closely tied to the neighboring Chinatown community. Our strong home-school connection helps all of newly immigrated families integrate into their new lives in America.

Some of the things we love to do are reading stories (in Mandarin and English), gross motor play, block center and play-dough. We play in our block center daily and think of new ways to build buildings, machines, vehicles and more.

My Project

Our 40 bilingual young scientists are excited about the world around them. Their young minds are always thinking of ways to tinker and build using their imaginations. These magna-tiles and STEM materials will give these students hands-on experiences to learn foundational math and science concepts.

As children of new immigrants, our bilingual students will benefit from as many hands on learning experiences as possible.

The ideas of physics, motion and math can be easily learned when these children experience making their own castles, waterways and bridges. Our scientists are waiting for their first chances to test and explore the wonders of our world in our STEM lab.
