My Students

Do you have a favorite place to spend quality time with a community of friends? Is it a warm, inviting space filled with things that remind you of one another? I hope to create that for my students in a classroom meeting area. I am a new teacher with an incoming class and never ending possibilities!

My students attend the largest elementary school in our district.

The majority of students attending our school receive free or reduced lunches due to the high poverty rate. One third of the school population are English Language Learners, some coming from refugee camps or having family members who have. These students deserve quality learning opportunities and materials that will enrich their experience here at school. Sadly, our school's funding isn't always able to provide them with those things which they need most. The donations from DonorsChoose will give them a fresh start and make them excited about learning.

My Project

This year my students will be participating in many group based learning situations. I will foster student relationships with one another and myself using different team building strategies in large group settings. Students will be working on three major unit projects and depend on one another for support and guidance throughout the year. The Store & Display Teaching Cart from Lakeshore Learning will give us a place to display student thinking, read stories and stores materials for each day of learning. Lakeshore Learning's 3-in-1 Mobile Book Library will be a place to display favorite books, including those written by students themselves and unit related narratives for students and myself to use. The two Toddler Deluxe Bean Bag Chairs from Teacher's School Supply Inc. will give students a comfortable place to sit while contributing to classroom conversations.

As a new teacher in my school, I am not able to afford many things for my first year of teaching.

I acquired many great hand me downs from a retired teacher. However I know how important classroom meeting times are and I want that part of our day to be special to my students. Giving them colorful, new materials will show them how important they are to me and provide an overall sense of happiness when the class gathers together. Please help us to feel at home in our new room this coming fall.
