Help A New Special Needs Teacher

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the privilege of being a Special Education teacher this year, serving students ranging from kindergarten to second grade. My classroom is a separate setting to closely monitor and support students diagnosed with Developmental Delays and varying forms of autism. My classroom currently has 12 students. I work closely with my students in small groups supporting the needs of their Individualized Education Plans. We are an elementary school with a high level of poverty, in addition to being in a military town. My students need a sense of structure and unconditional love and patience as they are beginning their educational journeys.

My Project

With students being able to have the necessary supplies needed to complete their daily tasks, they will gain confidence while doing their work. Individualized supplies and bins will minimize the spread of COVID within the school setting and keep the students safe while back in person. A new circle time carpet will give the students a visual of where to sit to stay seated and focused during circle time, whole group lessons, and provide comfortable floor covering. This carpet will also be used as a teaching aid for reading and phonics. These supplies will help create a safe and friendly environment within the classroom.
