Help me give my students, in fact, one special student the power to grow his mind through books he doesn't own and engage in the art of drawing, a passion of his, with materials he doesn't have.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is dedicated to teaching everyone through project-based learning as a social justice educational tool. We are a progressive, public, charter school devoted to teaching every child the skills and concepts they need to be successful in our ever-changing world.
We have created an engaging, interactive online learning program but cannot replicate the materials and books we have in the classroom.
We serve a large Mexican American population, as well as a diverse group of families in the North County San Diego area. First and foremost, my students need to be reading every day to be prepared for fourth grade. While they do have access to books online, there are complications: 1) Not everyone has consistent internet access, (2) sometimes siblings are sharing devices, and (3) nothing replaces a real book for kids' development.
We do not receive as much funding as local public schools and do not burden our parents with expenses; therefore, we are responsible for our own classroom materials. Now we face a real challenge with our school closed, and students at home with limited resources. Please help them by helping me get books and other items into their hands.
My Project
This particular project was designed with one student in mind. He is an excellent student, but faces many challenges. With our present stay-at-home order, his challenges have increased 10-fold. He does not own a single book at home, and has already used the paltry few pieces of paper and pencils we were able to send him.
He yearns to learn and loves to read, but without books at home and with the powerful allure of video games, he is isolated and out of his learning routines.
Please help us provide him with these books and drawing utensils. He will be so touched, and it will make his home learning experiences so, so much richer. I may even cry when he tells me that the books have arrived!
