Help 4th Graders Learn Financial Literacy With a Class Economy!
Help me give my students a variety of prizes such as fruit snacks, chips, cookies, Rice Krispies Treats, gummy bears, sour candies and animal cookies that they can purchase with "class cash" in our classroom store.
I teach fourth grade at a Title I school located in Central Florida. Ninety-eight percent of students at my school are eligible for free/reduced-price lunches. I teach math and science to a total of 48 students. Our students come from a variety of social, behavioral, and emotional backgrounds; one thing they all have in common is their desire to learn!
I want my students to learn the importance of financial literacy through the utilization of a classroom economy system; I feel that this will help develop important lifelong skills.
My students are eager to learn, this is what I love so much about . This project will provide an engaging way for them to learn about financial literacy in the classroom, as well as the opportunity to earn some yummy treats and snacks.
My Project
This project will help provide important lifelong lessons for 45 fourth grade students. With this project, we will be able to set up a classroom economy system in which students earn "class cash" by completing classroom job duties, outstanding attendance (which is a huge issue at our school), following SOPs, demonstrating growth on diagnostic assessments and other demonstrated behaviors worth rewarding.
This project will allow my fourth graders the opportunity to learn about financial literacy through a classroom economy, as well as increase daily attendance, classwork completion and encourage appropriate behaviors.
Students will be able to choose from the variety of prizes listed within this project (chips, crackers, fruit snacks). Instead of focusing on the negative behaviors (clip down, change your card systems) I am choosing to highlight the positive behaviors in which students are praised and awarded for following the directions and being model students.
