This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Help third graders learn to love reading. I teach third grade in a public conversion charter school. Our school serves Pre-K to 5th grade students, most of whom live in the neighborhood directly surrounding our school. Many of my students are learning English and receive free or reduced price meals at school.

My students have not had many opportunities to experience quality literature. Most students do not have many books available at home and the reading program our school uses does not emphasize literature. To help correct this deficit, I try to expose students to literature as often as possible, usually through novels recognized with Newberry Awards. Students are inspired by our shared reading of novels and often seek books by the same author to read independently. Reading a novel together is most inspiring and valuable to students when each student has a copy of the book to read and work with.

To accomplish my goals and best inspire students, I need 25 copies of Charlotte's Web. Reading Charlotte's Web as a class will help students build reading fluency and comprehension skills, increase their vocabularies, introduce a new author, and inspire students with the joys of reading.

By funding my project you will help inspire third graders to become passionate readers.
