This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Thirty second graders are excited to improve their reading skills. However, with limited resources this becomes a challenge. A Chromebook would allow my students to access reading websites online in which they can improve their fluency and comprehension.
My class of thirty second graders come from very low income families.
Our school is surrounded by a community that is faced with gang violence. The majority of these students are reading at one to two grade levels below their current grade. Four of my students are RSP, which means they have some kind of a learning disability. These students need resources which will allow them to succeed.
My Project
In our classroom we have a reading challenge that motivates the children to read. They earn prizes for points they earn. The points are awarded by passing comprehension quizzes through the program, Accelerated Reader. By doing this, they are not only earning points for their reading challenge, but they are also improving their fluency and comprehension skills at the same time. The students also practice math skills online through various programs such as Sumdog.
Please help fund this project to help my students succeed in reading.
A Chromebook will help my students to improve their reading, as well as math skills. Thank you so much for your time!
