My Students

"Hello Mudda, Hello Fadda" . . remember the art of letter writing, whether it was to a pen pal, Santa Claus or writing to your mother or father from summer camp. Letter writing is an art I want my first graders to enjoy doing regularly.

I teach at an elementary school in the "Heart of Cajun Country." We have a diverse population of students of all races,creeds, and economic opportunities.

We are also a host school for students who reside at our local shelters in the community. Our school thrives on providing the best educational experience that each student rightly deserves.

My Project

With a designated writing space for my first graders, they will have a quiet, relaxing area to engage in many independent writing activities, mainly letter writing. They will have the materials that they need at their fingertips. By having a special area in the room designated for letter writing, it will create a positive atmosphere and will foster a love for letter writing because it will make it something special and unique to do.

Even with today's technology with emails and texts, the art of letter writing should always be taught because it creates a personal experience between the writer and the recipient.

It is important for me to instill in my first graders a love of writing and with a writing station, they will be able to do so more freely.
