Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
For the upcoming school year, I want to meet every student at their level and help them grow from there. With these resources, I can better support bilingual students and struggling readers by providing the explicit, structured practice they need. Many of my students are bilingual and come to first grade still developing their English language skills. Sometimes, they struggle with first-grade material and start the year below grade level.
I am requesting Heggerty Level K books, with Sets 1 and 2 of decodable books and constant blend cards to support my small group instruction.
The Heggerty curriculum focuses on building phonemic awareness—skills like rhyming, segmenting, blending, and manipulating sounds—which are critical for early reading success.
The decodable books will give students the opportunity to practice the phonics patterns they are learning in real texts, helping them build confidence and fluency. The constant blend cards will reinforce letter sounds and blends during our small group lessons, giving my students hands-on practice that meets them right where they are—whether they are just learning English or need extra support in phonics.
