Heat Things Up in the Living Environment Lab

My lab students need a hot plate.

My accelerated 8th grade students are excited to be learning about biology this year. They are the first graduating 8th grade class to be preparing for the Living Environment Regents exam in our school. We are a pre-K-8 school in a high-need community.

Our budget has been severely cut. This is only the third year that our school has had an 8th grade and our lab is not yet fully stocked.

My students need a hot plate to complete one of the four required labs for the state exam. In addition to completing required labs, we would be able to set up a hot water bath so that we can do cool stuff like separate the DNA from onion cells! I would also be able to use the hot plate in my other 8th grade classes for enrichment activities. My students absolutely love being able to get their hands dirty and wear safety equipment. A single hot plate would provide a plethora of opportunities for new learning experiences.

Your donation will make it possible for my students to have an enriched science experience this year. It is so amazing to watch kids get excited about learning. By providing them with multiple opportunities for hands-on experiences they might not otherwise get, you will be opening their eyes to a world of possibilities and setting them up for success.
