Hearty Headphones

My students need headphones and headphone splitters to use for testing, at literacy stations, and for listening to music.

My Students

Our classroom is an open and inviting environment designed to foster independent student learning. My students are thirsty for new materials to continue their education.

I teach in a public urban multi-age Montessori school with fifty-five first through fifth-grade students.

My students learn through small group and individual lessons, research and inquiry, and by going out into our community. My students come from all different backgrounds racially and socioeconomically and live in an urban setting. My co-teacher and I are piloting a combined Montessori 1st-6th grade classroom.

My students are involved in social justice and environmental conscious movements taking a stand and trying to better the world. Our students work hard with the resources they have to follow their passions and find meaning in their education.

My Project

It seems like each year we purchase new headphones for our classroom, and each year we end up with 90% of them destroyed by January.

To end this vicious cycle, this year we would like to purchase some higher quality headphones meant to withstand the daily use of 6 - 12 year old children.

In our classroom, we use headphones for multiple purposes. Students have a literacy station where they can listen to books on tape, have access to online resources which sing and rap about concepts they have had lessons on, and have access to music cds as follow up to their music lessons. Students often want to share in this experience, so we need headphone splitters.

Headphones are an especially great tool for students who struggle with reading or attention, as it helps them to follow along in texts and focus on their task at hand. We also need headphones during testing times, and it is essential that the headphones are working and students are comfortable. If they are too small or too large, this can impact their results.

These headphones and splitters would be very beneficial for all of our students!
