Hearts & Minds Intertwined- A Wellbeing Literacy Resource Station
Help me give my students a book cart and books that will directly influence and allow my students and families to address any social and emotional distress they will face, while building skills to apply in future difficult situations.

My Students
My group consists of 12 (eventually 17) bright-eyed and bushy-tailed preschoolers. I currently have students that have dilapidated or unsatisfactory housing, are homeless, have severe trauma backgrounds, and developmental delays. These children come from diverse households that include single parent, divorced, LGBT, foster, and multigenerational families. To receive an education at my center, the family must fall below the federal poverty guidelines. As a result of these above mentioned factors, compiled with COVID-19 concerns, my students and their families undergo trauma and are in dire need of attention from a social and emotional aspect.
I am not only an advocate for my students, I am an advocate for getting families the social and emotional resources they need to fulfil their role as the most important teacher in their child's life.
My students come from homes that suffer the same life changing circumstances that all demographics do. The difference however, is that these home life stresses affect young children in very harmful ways with little to no outside assistance to persevere. I have the power to increase my students' success factors and affect long-term their formal education years and beyond, so that they may flourish in this world!
My Project
More authors are now addressing the increase in a deprivation of social and emotional skills in children. The vast array of topics requested in my project books list touch on death/grief/loss, conflict resolution, cooperation, compassion, friendship, homelessness, divorce, gender/community/equality/justice, incarceration, moving, inclusion, and meditation/mindfulness/yoga/breathing. These books will allow for me to teach techniques and strategies through literacy to foster an emotionally healthy student and family. I am asking for a mobile cart for the books storage to set up the Classroom & Family Resource Library Station to provide a loaner program for the families to check books out on the topics to meet their needs.
A child with the ability to regulate their emotions and have strong healthy connections to the adults in their life, are able to focus and handle life's stresses with more success.
Once aware of a situation, I will be able to incorporate a strategic lesson either as a large group or provide individual attention to the student. Next, I will connect with the family to provide assistance in growing skills and coping tools to be used for that situation. Parents with social and emotional skills are able to deal with future life circumstances and better provide their children with the care, understanding, and connection they need for support.
