Hearst Castle History in Hues

My students need transportation to and from Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California to engage with a professional artist creating an authentic art piece.

My Students

Students in our rural setting come to our middle school from seven different elementary schools bringing with them a variety of economic and cultural backgrounds. This diversity provides an enriched, social environment for students to explore their love of learning where students feel safe. However, these students would benefit from an authentic learning experience in both Art and History.

This authentic learning experience may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many of our students, exposing them not only to art but also connecting them with our California history.

History will come alive and art will be explored by our students involvement and creations in creating water color masterpieces they will be able to display throughout our campus.

My Project

Excitement buzzed through the room today when the topic of field trips arose. Each student was instantly caught and engaged with the thrill of an authentic learning experience. Who knew that water colors and history would create such enthusiasm in 6th graders?

Experiencing the historical site and a professional art lesson is a unique opportunity we can offer to our students and one that will extend beyond this one-day experience.

Students will take with them their new knowledge of art in water colors and our local California history. History becomes real allowing students to see artifacts that have informed archaeologists about the civilizations students have studied within their textbooks.
