My Students

My students come from a small, rural community. Our district is a Title I School with sixty-two percent of the population qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. We are also seeing a growing population of ELL (English Language Learner) students from the Congo. Second grade is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while others are learning to explore, use critical thinking skills, and conduct experiments.

My goal is to give every student an equal chance to learn as much as they possibly can.

Our school population is changing. We are encountering more students who are coming to us with little or no support at home.

As my students make gains in my classroom, they begin to find pride in themselves. My classroom is about building skills. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. We celebrate little wins together each day. My students walk into class every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them. I want them to love coming.

My Project

I'm lucky enough to have a class set of Chromebooks available for my students. Technology in the classroom supports a wide variety of learners and their many, many needs. We use reading programs such as Reading Eggs, SeeSaw, Mobymax and Accelerated Reader. My students love using technology, but without proper earphones it is hard for them to concentrate on tasks given. They often become distracted when 17 kids are all trying to record themselves reading at the same time. With earphones, distractions will be minimized and students will be able to focus on the learning instead of each other.
