Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a high school special education english teacher desperately in need of audiobooks.
My students and I want the books our friends are reading. Our library is poorly stocked; often the books we want are checked out. Even if the book is in the library no audio books are available for readers reading below grade level. 85% of our school's students are on free lunch and our school does not pay for our extra resources.
My 65 special education english students will benefit from information gathered from these resources concerning subjects in which they are already interested. My students who can not read word for word from novels their freinds are reading can understand these books when they are read aloud using audio books.
This gift of audio books paired with the written novel will ensure that my students will go to college by opening the world of reading to those who may have struggled before. If one student benefits from this grant, we will have made progress.
Research indicates that having books read aloud increases reading motivation and vocabulary development, please give my students this gift!
