Hearing and Seeing During Distance Learning

My Students

Students in our classroom come from various backgrounds, cultures, and homes. They also have a wide range of learning abilities.

We are a part of a small community that cares deeply for the education of our children.

This small town school provides students with a sense of community and culture in a way that is very special. Our class strives to incorporate aloha and respect for ourselves, our families, our community and the environment in all that we do.

My Project

As with most classrooms these days, we are currently navigating the world of distance learning. Our school is utilizing a hybrid model, which means we have alternating groups of students learning at home and in the class. While students are at home, I teach lessons online via video conferencing. At this time, students can only see what is on my computer screen or what can be seen with my computer camera.

A document camera will give my students at home the opportunity to view what I write down during my lesson as a display on their screen, while simultaneously showing it to the students in my class via a projector.

It will become my virtual whiteboard/chalkboard for both groups at the same time. The speakers will help to connect the students in the two separate groups. They will allow the students in the class to be able to hear the students who speak from home. It will also make it easier for students at home to hear videos and lessons that I share on my screen in class. The VGA extension cord will help me to set up my classroom and projector in a more effective position as our classroom layout has changed drastically due to COVID restrictions.
