Hearing All Voices in History

Help me give my students history books that include voices and perspectives of those who were not always acknowledged.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Towery's classroom raised $358

My Project

In the past, history books have offered a limited view of the events that have shaped America. But a look into old history textbooks quickly teaches us that focusing on only one perspective can cause us to miss the whole picture.

In my classroom, my students are encouraged to examine the whole picture.

This means that we often use primary and secondary sources from the voices of those who weren't always listened to when the past was the present. As an ELA-turned-history teacher, I know the power of words and that books are one way to provide a glimpse into the perspective of those whose voices were often suppressed. This project will continue to allow me to build a classroom library that matches my content and offers a wide variety of perspectives to examine.

This project will provide resources featuring multiple perspectives to get into the hands of my students. The books will be featured during the relevant unit and students will have the opportunity to either read for themselves, or I will read from or reference them during the unit.
