My Students
My school consists primarily of children with autism, ADHD, or other special needs. I serve 12 kindergarten students in my classroom, many of whom struggle with sensory needs and autism.
I hope to provide my students with a place they feel safe and loved while providing an engaging learning environment regardless of learning needs.
I am a 3rd-year teacher, building my classroom. I want to give them their best opportunities for learning for their abilities and lay a strong foundation for their education.
My Project
These books will support our continuing efforts to teach about kindness, inclusion, diversity, feelings, social skills, resilience, and process different life situations. The lessons I will teach through these books are lessons that they will use throughout the COVID pandemic and the rest of their lives. When we are on Distance Learning, I enjoy reading books via Zoom to our students, giving them an experience similar to what they would have when in school. Providing a classroom library to my students enhances their reading comprehension and leads to a positive mindset towards reading.
Books are also helpful when a student's behavior is escalated; we can give them a book to help them focus on their space.
It's always great to add new books to our library, and my students will be thrilled to have these books in our classroom library.
Each item was selected to fill the classroom with learning activities to increase knowledge of things, time, places, patterns, and counting. Each item will aid students in specific ways from gross to fine motor skills, sensory needs, speech, and function. This will assist students to move to the next steps in their education. My goal is to have students gain important and basic functional skills and continue to build to allow them to gain greater independence.
The goal in my classroom is to create a fun, engaging, and meaningful education.
I want to build confidence and determination in each student.
