I teach students with autism, ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade, who receive EC staff assistance for modifications to ensure successful participation in the regular education curriculum (both academically and socially).

As is true of many children with autism, most of my students have great difficulty writing lengthy information (more than one sentence)and have to rely on EC staff to scribe most written assignments. In order to be accurate, our staff must make the student stop talking while they write each statement. This interrupts the creative flow of writing and sometimes makes it difficult for the students to stay focused. In addition, students often have to take turns with the staff who are writing down the information.

The "Dragon Naturally Speaking" software would allow my students to speak aloud and have every word recorded in a written format, without the need for a person to write it. In addition, the software would eliminate the wait time required for staff to record each phrase.

Your help will make it possible for my students to be more creative and write independently, without having to stop and wait for a teacher writer to "catch up".
